17 April 2025

Thursday.

The temperature ranges from 5 to 16c today. Sunny in the morning and sunny intervals during the afternoon. Wind speed is much lower compared to other days especially yesterday. Thus staying outdoors for long without sunshine doesn’t make me feel cold.

Sunrise 6:00am and sunset 8:00pm.

The winter was boring due to overcast almost all the time, but was followed by warm and sunny from March which was earlier than expected. The great weather could last long till mid-April. But think positive: unsettled weather doesn’t imply there will be no nice weather as it is less predictable and stable. Rain, wind, clouds and sunshine are collaborating with each other so everyday is different: this Tuesday was rainy and cloudy, Wednesday was sunny but windy, today is less windy while there are more clouds.

Maybe we can look forward to the following months, but it will be too hot and UV too high.

After laying on the grass in a park, I felt the weather was perfect enough.

But perfection doesn’t exist in reality. It’s something we imagine/construct.

There are some moments we feel good, just because we don’t notice something wrong, or we just accept it. It depends on our perception, not reality.

Our thoughts become robust after a series of education and experiences. Such strong beliefs lead to routines which guide our everyday life. When we move to other countries, we may see different ways of doing and regard these as “strange” and even “wrong”.

When I was in Hong Kong, I wore long-sleeve clothes except summer, which is usually above 25c. The temperature of the UK does not usually reach more than 25c, but I found I can wear short-sleeves with a (down) jacket when the temperature is above 10c. It’s not because I am stronger. It’s that the weather which is drier than Hong Kong makes the condition acceptable even though it is still a bit cold. Indoors are usually warmer especially with heaters on, compared to air conditioning on throughout the year in Hong Kong.

The key message is that when we are more willing to aware of the surrounding environment and ourselves, we will never lose the ability to learn and adapt, and see life is full of options. It’s not limited to the case of dressing above but also in every other aspect of life. The only obstacles come from our persistence in what we think is true and real, and overconfidence that we know everything well.

Yes, learning and adaptation are not easy, but we can tackle when we give ourselves time, and shift our confidence of knowing already to doing better and better.
